Isabelle Spence-Legault is co-owner/operator of Field Good Farms/La ferme j’me champs bien, a small-scale organic vegetable farm in Northeastern Ontario where she has been farming for seven years alongside her partner Ryan Spence. Isabelle’s interest in farming started with an Eco-Internship in Montreal where she helped establish a collective garden in an impoverished neighbourhood and worked for Cyclo-Nord Sud to collect and send bicycles to developing countries.After this experience Isabelle completed a six-month internship at Dalew Farms where she learned about CSAs, egg-shares, and pastured livestock production. After this experience Isabelle and Ryan decided to co-found Field Good Farms/La ferme j’me champs bien in 2011. Currently Field Good Farms operates a 150-member summer CSA program, a 40-member fall CSA program and attends the year-round North Bay Farmers’ Market. Beyond the farm, Isabelle has won a Young Entrepreneurs Award in West Nipissing and has chaired the board of the West Nipissing Agricultural Task Force, which has developed a successful annual Farm to Fork Event boasting 500 attendees.Long-term, Isabelle strives to include more perennial crops and value added products for the CSA program.
